Inquiry on Music for Flute and Piano by African American Composers

[William Grant Still: Two Cameos, Two Works for Flute and Violin or Piano]

Today we heard from Rowland Sutherland, whose website is: http://www.rowlandsutherland.com
“I must say that it's been great to discover your site AfriClassical.com. Many thanks for such a fine site with valuable information. I am a flautist, composer, arranger, bandleader and educator of African Caribbean parentage from the island of St Vincent.” “I am writing to see if you might be able to please help me to discover any music by African American composers from the USA who have written music for flute and piano, as I have a recital in October 2010 and I would like to air such work. It would be wonderful if you could please point me in the right direction.
Many thanks.
My best,
Rowland”

AfriClassical has replied by email:
"Hello Rowland,
I am happy to hear of your interest in performing works for flute and piano by African American composers from the USA. You can find such works on the composer pages of Hale Smith and William Grant Still, among others, at AfriClassical.com. WilliamGrantStill.com is an unrivaled source of works of this composer, and is operated by his daughter Judith Anne Still. Works of Adolphus Hailstork are at the website of Theodore Presser, publisher.”

The sheet music collection at William Grant Still Music includes this work for flute and piano:

Piano and Instrumental Music
William Grant Still: Two Cameos
Two works for flute and piano, or violin and piano, titled PICNIC WITH SHEILAH and PROCESSION OF THE ANTS by the composer's daughter (after the composer's death). http://www.williamgrantstill.com/sheetmusiccollections/list.nhtml

We also excerpted results of a Google search, which yielded this work:
Adolphus Hailstork – The website of Theodore Presser, his publisher, lists works including “Sonatina for Flute and Piano Available From Weingart”

These are just two examples of the many works for flute and piano which have been written and published by African American composers. The Works Lists at AfriClassical.com which have been compiled by Prof. Dominique-René de Lerma are excellent tools for research on inquiries such as this one.
