Forum on Music and Christian Scholarship

The 2011 annual meeting of the Forum on Music and Christian Scholarship (FMCS), will take place at Wheaton College, Illinois, during March 17–19, 2011. A multimedia keynote address titled “Bridging the Old and New in Contemporary Africa: The Creative Task of Christian Scholarship” will be given by Emeritus Professor. J. H. Kwabena Nketia, the legendary 90-year-old scholar of African music.” “Brahms’ A German Requiem will be performed at Chicago’s Symphony Hall by the Apollo Chorus, Wheaton College Symphony orchestra and choirs, and a choir from Northern Illinois University. Kurt Weill Book Prize—Call for Nominations
“The Kurt Weill Foundation for Music welcomes nominations for the 2011 Kurt Weill Book Prize for distinguished scholarship in music theater since 1900 (including opera), for works first published in calendar years 2009 and 2010. Timuel D. Black Jr. Short-Term Fellowship Program
Deadline For Applications Extended To March 15, 2011
“The Timuel D. Black Jr. Fund, a standing committee of the Vivian G. Harsh Society, Inc., is providing short-term research fellowships related to the Vivian G. Harsh Research Collection of Afro-American History and Literature housed at the Carter G. Woodson Regional Library of the Chicago Public Library.” “The fellowship period is for one or two months during summer 2011. Fellows will receive a stipend of $2,000 per month while conducting research in Chicago. The new application deadline is March 15, 2011.
