John Malveaux: 'Tribute to George Gershwin'

[Jammieca Mott, Soprano]

John Malveaux of www.MusicUNTOLD.com writes:

The subject of employment and casting of African Americans in opera is a contentious subject. African American culture and lifestyle portrayed in Porgy & Bess is a contentious subject. However, the long standing employment opportunities provided by Porgy & Bess for African American opera talent is not contentious. George Gershwin did not only cast African American in his opera, he imposed a performance rights stipulation that required casting of African Americans. His estate continues to honor his stipulation. Soprano Jammieca Mott will sing "I LOVES YOU PORGY" during the 150th Anniversary Emancipation Proclamation Concert, Sept. 22nd in Los Angeles
