Charles Kaufmann: Updated version of Coleridge-Taylor's 'Lament' is on YouTube

Charles Kaufmann of The Longfellow Chorus of Portland, Maine writes:

Dear Bill,

I apologize for this, but I have updated my recording of Coleridge-Taylor's "Lament: They Will Not Lend Me A Child" with a version that better mixes the solo bassoon with the synthetic orchestra. I've deleted the previous YouTube version. The new "Lament" link on YouTube is here:

This unknown work reminds me of the Berceuse in Stravinsky's Firebird, and how the late, great American bassoonist Sol Schoenbach used to say that you had to play Berceuse as if you were a mother rocking your infant child.

And by the way, updated information about the Longfellow Choral Festival 2013, dedicated entirely to the music of Coleridge-Taylor -- many rare performances -- can be seen here:

Best wishes,

Charles Kaufmann
