Date:Tuesday 27th November 2012, 6:00pm, followed by a drinks reception
Venue:Steinway Hall, 44 Marylebone Lane, Wigmore St, London W1U 2DB
Tickets:Entrance to the seminar is free, though booking is essential.

The symposium explores the creative conditions of writing and performing music for a global event in reference to the range of themes in the opening ceremony of the Paralympic games, such as enlightenment, human rights and the homecoming of athletes. The themes were approached by musical composition, communal participation, emotional reach and through scopes of architecture, audiences and worldwide media. Video examples of the world premieres of Errollyn Wallen’s Principia and Spirit in Motion will be viewed and reflected on by the artist herself and then in a question-and-answer session.

The evening will be introduced by Dr. Ola Johansson, discussing the challenges of artistic performances in the age of globalization. Errollyn Wallen will develop and explore this by examining her own experiences and insight into the ideas of Composing and Performing in the Age of Globalization including her personal perspective on her work for the London Paralympics 2012. The evening will conclude with a generously assigned question-and-answer session open to the public.

The event will be chaired by Dr. Ola Johansson, Reader in Contemporary Performance Practice at the Centre for Research into Creation in the Performing Arts.
